Some May Call It "Crazy" - but, We Had Fun!

As some of you know, I do enjoy "shopping" at CVS. They had special deals that started on Thanksgiving Day and ends Saturday - so, you can still try and get some of them, if you are up to it! Click here to see a scan of the add, courtesy of hot coupon world.

I was really excited to go out and grab up the deals that were free after ECBs, and I wanted to be sure that I was able to get all of the items on my list, so I decided that I was going to go to the 24 hour CVS, so that I would be able to make my purchases right after midnight on Thanksgiving Day - yes, I was hosting Thanksgiving...so, I just made sure that everything was ready before I left! My mom decided to go with me, and we had a lot of fun (my sis would have come to, but she was at her in-laws for the holiday).

So, here was my plan - mom and I left her house at 11:00pm, and drove to the 24 hour CVS. I figured that we could collect all of the items that were on our list and organize them into the different transactions that we were going to do. Then, once it was after midnight, we could begin checking out and receive out ECBs for the items! There were no other shoppers there when we arrived - but at least 5 or more came in after midnight! So, we were glad that we got there when we did, so that we got first pick of everything!

We did not get home until after 1am, but we had a great time, and then I did not have to think about being ready to leave my house around 8:00am so that I could go to my local CVS to do my "shopping".

This is all of the after Thanksgiving shopping that I did (well, I guess that it really was before Thanksgiving!). I thought about going on Black Friday, but decided to get some sleep instead!

I don't want to take the time to write out all of the transactions that I did, but below is a list of the items that I purchased- which was worth about $200 before the sale price and the Extra care bucks that I received back! I spent about $2.00 of cash (actually it was paid with a $25 gift card that I received when I had a prescription filled there), and ended up with $35 more ECBs than I started with (due to the coupons that I used). The coupons that I used are listed after below the product (thanks to slickdeals). "SS" = Smart Source coupon insert "V" = Valassis

CVS-ing: This Week Has Been Great!

This week, CVS has had some amazing deals. I just want to remind you that right now, I am only choosing to buy things that will give me the same amount of ECBs back that I would spend on the product or I will buy something that I have a really good coupon for, that will still give me ECBs back. However, I did buy 3 items that had a "try me free" rebate form on it and no ECBs back. I figured that it was worth it. I am hoping that I will actually get my rebate back on the item since I paid for it with ECBs and not actual cash...we will see in 8-10 weeks! Not sure why it takes them so long to send you a rebate check!

So, this week, I went to CVS three times, I did a total of 7 transactions and spent about $2.73 out of pocket max and received well over $100 worth of items. On Sunday, I did 3 transactions in a row. I let two people go ahead of me so that they did not have to wait for me to do this. Monday night, I went out after the boys were put down for bed and I did another 3 transactions, and then last night I did one more.

CVS-ing has been a lot of fun. Not only am I able to buy things for pennies and save our family money, but I am also able to get out of the house for a little bit too. Shopping at CVS has become a little bit of a hobby for me - I am able to figure out what I can buy for next to nothing and figure out how I can increase the amount of ECBs that I have left at the end of the transaction. It gives me a little time to myself and a sense of accomplishment too! I know that there are other things that you can do to get this same feeling, but right now, I am enjoying CVS!

I have been meaning to take photos of what I have been purchasing to post like Thrills did (way to go girl!), but just have not done that yet! Maybe after my next visit!

CVS - Another Trip Today

Last week, I went to CVS and I think that I spent less than $1 for about $30 worth of "stuff". Today, I bought about $50 worth of "stuff" for a mere $2.44 out of pocket (and I will be sending away for two $6.99 mail-in rebates!). I did three transactions while I was there to capitalize on the save $5 on a $15 purchase coupon. I have to admit that I really enjoy the challenge of buying things at CVS, using all of the coupons that I find in the paper or online, using my extra care bucks and trying to increase the amount of extra care bucks that I have remaining.

How do I do it? Well, first of all I love a challenge and I love saving money - so, those two items are combined here. If you are interested in saving money at CVS, I suggest reading two posts written by Money Savings Mom: CVS 101 and Making CVS Work For You. I think that she explains the process of CVSing very well. Then, I would suggest subscribing to her blog. Each week, she gives some examples of what you could do at CVS and she always has a link for you to see all of the deals on a site called Slickdeals. At Slickdeals, they tell you about the deals for the week and if there are any coupons online that you can print out. So, I suggest checking that out as well, and you can see this weeks deals by clicking here. There are a lot of great deals out there, and obviously I took advantage of many of them! I will be going back again this week because there are some more products that I use that I can get for pennies - so, why not take advantage of a good thing! While at the store, just be careful that you choose the correct thing to purchase so that you earn the ECBs that you would like to.

On my sidebar, you can see that as of today:
Total Before Savings at CVS = $165.56
Total Spent out of Pocket = $16.65
Extra Care Bucks Remaining = $39.90

I Love A Great Deal!

I was so excited on my drive home from CVS today - they had a razor there that I wanted (I called before I went - it is only about one mile from my house, so it is not a far drive). I saved SO much money and I did not have to use ECB this time at all...but I earned some!

So, this is what happened today:

9.99 Venus Embrace Razor
2.99 Colgate toothpaste
0.99 Johnson's easy grip soap for kids
0.50 Johnson's easy grip soap for kids (they were buy one get one 50% off)
0.99 Johnson's easy grip soap for kids
0.50 Johnson's easy grip soap for kids
$15.96 (+ tax on all but the toothpaste) TOTAL before coupons
-5.00 CVS coupon (save $5 when you spend $15)
-4.00 Razor coupon
-1.50 toothpaste coupon
-1.00 soap coupon
-1.00 soap coupon
-1.00 soap coupon
-0.96 soap coupon (could only be this amount since the original price of the soaps were 0.99)
$1.48 New Total

*I paid this total "out of pocket" because my least amount of ECBs was $2.99 and I did not want to buy anything else this evening.

**ECB received tonight = $8.99!!!

I do enjoy saving money and this is sort of like a "game" in a sense. I am looking forward to the CVS circular for next week - I hope there are some good sales and ECBs back!

One key thing that I look for is an item that the sale price and the amount of ECBs that you get back is equal - so in essence, you get this free. In order to continue to increase the amount of ECBs that you have, you need to then find a manufacturer's coupon - which I have done. So, for the toothpaste that I purchased tonight, I really only paid $1.49 for it, but received $2.99 ECBs back for it. So, I am getting a lot more for my money! I am going to continue to do this and then with my ECBs, I can purchase things like diapers, toilet paper, or whatever else I need - that will help me save money all the way around.

We will see how this little adventure goes as I continue to have "fun" and stretch the money that God has given to us.

If you plan on joining me in this, I would love to hear how you are doing with your deals. Or, if you have other ways that you stretch your money, I would love to hear about that too!
